Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University, a nationally accredited college with a CIDA accredited Interior Design Program, seeks a full-time tenure-track assistant professor.  This position offers the opportunity to work in an urban environment, with a collaborative faculty engaged in student-centered learning, in a thriving art community.  Our commitment to technology and sustainability support students on their journey to become effective designers.  The faculty is comprised of interior designers and architects, full-time and adjunct faculty, that work professionally while teaching.  Come be a part of our team.

Position

Full-time tenure-track assistant professor position, to teach a total of 18 semester-hours per academic year, with an opportunity for summer teaching. Start date: August 2012.

Required Credentials
Bachelors and Masters degrees; one degree must be in Interior Design or Interior Architecture from accredited institutions; college-level teaching experience, minimum 4 semesters; professional practice experience, minimum of 5 years; NCIDQ certification.

Preferred Credentials
Strong liaisons with the design industry; membership in professional organizations such as ASID or IIDA; experience with curriculum development at the university level; experience with CIDA Accreditation Standards; knowledge of sustainability certification programs such as LEED.

Responsibilities
Ability to teach at the undergraduate level in at least three (3) of the following:  commercial design, residential design, presentation graphics and presentation software, building systems, finish materials, lighting, codes, Universal Design, AutoCAD, BIM, and 3D computer modeling.

Fully participate in our collaborative teaching environment developing program-wide curriculum.

Participate in academic advising.

Teach Interior Design Studio courses using the design process, employing strong concepting skills, design development, and effective communication.
